Khurram Manzoor vows strong comeback

Karachi—Test opener Khurram Manzoor said Saturday that he was deeply disappointed with his showing in Asia Cup Twenty20 Tournament in Bangladesh but vowed to stage a strong come back.
“It was a difficult time for me. But, now I am coming out of depression,” he told APP in an interview. “Some time in your career you do pass through difficult phases. But time teaches to fight back and I am doing that,” he said and recalled how Pakistan iconic opener Saeed Anwar bagged a pair on his Test debut and later become great opener for the country.
He said he don’t want to defend himself and give lame excuses for his flop batting. But the pitches at Shera Bangla Stadium were not of the kind suited to Twenty20 cricket, the 29-year-old Khurram, observed. He was dropped against Sri Lanka after three matches of Asia Cup having made ten, zero and one in matches against India, UAE and Bangladesh respectively. Khurram said he was very happy after he was picked in the T20 team because he had played a lot cricket in Dhaka League and Bangladesh Premier League.
“I was hoping good tracks. But pitches in Asia Cup T20 were not up to the mark and top players even MS Dhoni said the same about it,” he pointed out. He was of the view that curators had little time to prepare good tracks because of ICC Under-19 World Cup and triangular series.
“Curators were unable to prepare batting tracks needed for T20 brand,” Khurram who had featured in 16 Tests and seven ODIs, said. He dispelled the impression that he walked into Pakistan T20 squad without creditable performances.
“I was top-scorer in Regional T20 event held in Faisalabad with 302 runs with three to four fifties”. He also negated the impressions that he was not good for shorter version of cricket and pointed out that he performed well against England Lions and other events after which selectors picked him for Asia Cup and World T20.
He showed his disappointment on what he called unwarranted criticism against him by a section of the media and said he feel sorry for not coming up to the expectations of the nation. He wished Shahid Afridi’s Pakistan team for great success and comeback in ICC World T20 after disappointing results in Asia Cup.—APP
