Lahore —Provincial Minister for Labor and Human Resource Raja Ashfaq Sarwar has said that Punjab Labor Department is extending full cooperation to NADRA, Punjab Social Protection Authority and Schools Education Department for issuance of National Identity and Khidmat Cards to the Brick kilns Laborers so as to enable them to get cash benefits and stipend for their children through social security cover.
Punjab Social Protection Authority (PSPA) has issued more than 40 thousand Khidmat Cards to the Brick kilns laborers and educational stipends are being given to the enrolled children whom attendance is 75 percent in schools.
He stated this while presiding over a meeting in this regard here today. The Minister said that Punjab Government has made necessary amendments in the labor laws to protect the Brick kilns workers from the exploitation of the owners as “The Prohibition of Employment of Children at Brick Kilns Act 2016” has been approved by the Punjab Assembly recently.
According to the new law the limit of advance(PAISHGI) shall not exceed 50 thousand rupees and every engagement are appointment of a worker shall be subject to a written contact in prescribed form between the Brick Kiln workers and the owner, the Minister informed.
An occupier shall be liable to punishment of imprisonment which may extend to 6 months and fine of 5 lakh rupees along with sealing of the kiln for 7 days. The parent are guardian who permit the child to work at the Brick kiln shall be jointly and equally liable for the offence along with the occupier.
Raja Ashfaq Sarwar said that Punjab Labor Department in collaboration with Districts Governments and Brick Kiln owners has managed to send mobile teams of NADRA to the clusters of the Brick Kilns for preparation of CNICs of workers.
