Kamal demands KWB be put under Mayor

Staff Reporter

Pak Sarzameen Party chief Mustafa Kamal has suggested that Karachi Water Board must be under Mayor, for that was necessary to provide water to the people, who at present, are suffering immensely because of the incompetence and inefficient control over such an important utility
It would be preferable to spend money on water supply system instead of hospitals because we are working reverse philosophy of making people sick and then provide them treatment.
Appearing before the Sindh High Court, hearing a petition on water supply and drainage, in which managing director, water board, and secretary irrigation were also present, Kamal that when himself was mayor of Karachi, K-3 project started, and had study of 50 years of water supply reauirement in 2007.He said that Karachi needed 1250 million gallons of water daily, while it was getting half that quantity of 640 mGD. During General Ziaul Haq days, Karachi was allocated a quota of 1200 cusecs of water whereas it was being given
Just 1.5 percent of that. Supply system for water in Karachi was still in control of man sitting on the pump which was height of injustice.
