Jhagra prioritises education

EDUCATION indeed is a birth right of every citizen and the country’s Constitution also envisages provision of free and compulsory education to all children between the age of 5-16 years. Nevertheless, criminal negligence was meted out to this vital important sector in the past which could be gauged from the fact that a staggering twenty four million children across the country are still out of schools.
Recognizing the significance of the sector, the present government, however, has taken a number of steps including a nationwide enrolment campaign in a bid to meet the universal primary enrolment targets in the next two years. As part of those efforts, newly appointed Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Iqbal Zafar Jhagra on Friday formally launched the education campaign to enrol one hundred percent children in Federally Administrated Tribal Areas. We believe if the governor succeeds in its efforts for bringing improvement in FATA’s education, many of the problems faced by the tribal areas will automatically stand resolved. This will not only enlighten the tribal people about their due rights but also help bring them into the national mainstream. Equipping the tribal youth with latest education will also help address the issue of extremism and terrorism which has taken a heavy toll and forced the local people to leave their homes. Therefore, we welcome the Governor KP’s initiative for prioritizing the education in tribal areas and are sure that he will take the requisite steps on urgent basis to build the necessary education infrastructure badly affected by acts of terrorism. The Governor may ask for additional funds, if so required, from the Federal government for provision of all the facilities in the schools besides focus should also be laid on hiring of well trained and educated teachers in order to ensure quality of education. It will be his great service to the people of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the country and history will also remember him, if the Governor takes forward education as a mission for the wellbeing of people.
