Irfan’s ton steers PTV to 408-8 in Patrons Trophy

Karachi—Middle order batsman Muhammad Irfan hit a timely hundred as Pakistan Television (PTV) recovered to post 408 runs for the loss of eight wicket against Pakistan Navy in their second round match of Patrons Cricket Trophy Grade-II tie on Monday.
By draw of stumps on day one in the 3-day tie,Navy responded strongly by reaching 93 without loss in 16 overs here at RLCA Ground Gulburg. Hamza Ghanchi was 49 not out with eight fours and Abdul latif’s 42 laced with nine boundaries. Day saw runs spree as many as 501 runs were scored for the loss of just eight wickets in 99 overs
However day belonged to Irfan, who rescued his team from 109-3 to a massive score. Irfan clubbed eight fours and four sixes in his 115 off 101 balls.
Hassan Raza banged nine fours in his 84 and added 108 runs for the fourth wicket with Rehan Afridi, whose 51 was studded with four fours and three sixes.
First class off-break bowler Nasir Awais from Hyderabad captured six wickets for 171 runs in a marathon 39 overs. Meanwhile, Test batsman Sami Aslam hit an explosive 201 not out and Usman Salahddin cracked unbeaten 101 as State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) posted 399 runs for the loss of eight wickets in their first innings against Candyland in their second round tie of Patrons Cricket Trophy on Monday.
SBP playing in their own environments ground punished Candyland bowlers and later destroyed their batting on day one of their 3-day match. When play ended for the day, hapless Candyland were reeling at 36 for six wickets in 16 overs of the first innings.
Left handed Sami, who hammered a century in his first round match, was again at his brilliant best striking 14 boundaries and four sixes in his 210 balls knock and 219 minutes.
Usman Salahuddin returned undefeated on exact 100 and his innings included seven hits to the ropes.
Sami and Usman added 272 runs for the unbroken fifth wicket stand after SBP was placed at 127-3.
