In occupied Kashmir, the puppet authorities have arrested the Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) Chief, Muhammad Yasin Malik, and put the Chairman of Hurriyat forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, under house arrest. The APHC Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani is already under house arrest for the past several years.
The detention of the leaders is aimed at preventing them from visiting the residence of a martyred youth, Mughees Ahmed Mir, and expressing solidarity with his family. Mughees was killed by the Indian troops during a siege and search operation in Zakura area of Srinagar, last night.
A spokesman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front in a statement said that Yasin Malik was arrested from his residence, today, and lodged at Srinagar Central Jail.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq was placed under house detention late last night. Meanwhile, the puppet authorities have imposed curfew-like restrictions and announced closure of schools and colleges in Srinagar to prevent demonstrations against the killing of Mughees. Classes at the Kashmir University, Srinagar, have been suspended. The authorities have also suspended train service in the territory.
On the other hand, the spokesman of the forum led by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, in a statement in Srinagar strongly denounced the house arrest and illegal detention of resistance leaders and imposition of restrictions in Srinagar by the puppet authorities. He said that such brutal tactics could not suppress the Kashmiris’ resolve to continue their ongoing freedom struggle.
The spokesman paid rich tributes to the youth martyred, Mughees Ahmed Mir, and said that the Kashmiri people would not allow the sacrifices of their martyrs go waste and would accomplish their mission at all costs. He appealed to the UN to impress upon India to take steps towards peaceful settlement of the Kashmir dispute.—KMS
