Intolerant MPs

ONCE again, there was a scuffle within the premises of Parliament House on Thursday involving MPs of PTI and the ruling PML-N. PTI MNA Murad Saeed tried to punch PML-N MNA Mian Javed Latif as the latter was leaving Parliament House. PTI legislator was angry over remarks made by PML-N lawmaker about PTI Chairman during his speech in the House.
This was highly deplorable incident, conveying dismal message about conduct and character of those who are supposed to be role models. Same PTI MNA earlier attacked Federal Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi on the floor of the House but no disciplinary action was taken against him. No one would dispute that PML-N MNA should not have described Imran Khan as ‘traitor’ as the tendency of labelling national leaders as traitor is loathsome but this provided no justification to indulge in physical brawl or attack. Members of the Senate, National Assembly and Provincial Assemblies are required to sort out complicated situations and issues but here they themselves are creating scenes and complicating the situation further. All of them claim to be democrats but majority of them lack tolerance and true spirit of democracy and indulge in untoward behaviour on different occasions. This is, in fact, failure of party leadership that has not been able to discipline their members who are doing no service to the party but damaging image and reputation. Speaker National Assembly has already formed a committee and strict action should be taken against those who discredit the prestigious institution.
