Lahore—Secretary Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education Department Punjab, Najam Ahmed Shah has issued instructions to all the Principals of Autonomous Medical Institutions, Medical Superintendents of Teaching Hospitals, Heads of Children Hospitals in Punjab and the Vice Chancellor Fatima Jinnah Medical University and Chairman/Dean Sheikh Zayed Medical Complex Lahore to take all necessary steps and effective measures for prevention, detection and management of seasonal food born diseases like Gastroenteritis and Acute Watery Diarrhoea (AWD).
They have been asked to operationalize epidemiological measures according to the international protocol and prompt quality care to the patients. Due to the use of substandard drinks and unhygienic food items in summer, lot of patients of acute water diarrhoea and gastroenteritis are reported every year.
Therefore, effective diagnostic and treatment facilities for such patients should be ensured in all the hospitals. A notification issued to the all concerned authorities in which it is stated that entries of all such patients on PITB dashboard through the data entry operators should be done on daily basis.
The officers have been asked to display banners at each hospital indicating availability of medicines for gastroenteritis patients. Also ensure availability of sufficient quantity of intravenous fluids and other medicines in hospitals stock. All concerned have been asked to ensure enforcement of the requisite Standard Operating Procedures in letter and spirit and submit daily situation report to the Health Department.
