Peshawar—The Khyber Pukhtunkhwa Governor Engr. Iqbal zafar Jhagra has said that making the youth of Pakistan skilful means providing them with opportunities to gain financial independence adding that technological advancement and industrial development is the only path to prosperity and stability for any nation.
He said that our skilled youth was very talented and hoped that our youth will take Pakistan forward on strong footings. Our human capital is our biggest asset and it would be most appropriate if this asset is properly utilized by giving them technical and vocational trainings. This will not only help their families but boost their self-esteem and confidence as well, he added.
He was addressing the prize distribution ceremony of National Skills Competition organized by NAVTTC here in Peshawar on Wednesday. The event was also attended by Ina Lepal, German Con-sulate, Jeannette Seppen, Consulate for Netherland , Jean Francois Cawtain, Consulate of European Union, Executive Director, NAVTTC, Zulfiqar Cheema, Industrialists, Heads of Training Institutes, Skilled Youth and others.
The skills selected for this competition were, beautician, Dress Making, Fashion Designing, Textile Designing Fine Arts, Cook-ing etc. Governor distributed cash prizes of Rs. 50,000/-, Rs. 30,000/- and Rs. 20,000/- amongst the 1st 2nd and 3rd position holders of each trade. On the occasion, the Governor visited and inspected the stalls and appreciated the work of trainees.
Addressing the ceremony, Governor said Skilled Human resource is essential for running the wheels of Industrial units constantly. He said technical trainings can play a vital role in the social and economic development of our Country. “A strong commitment by the Government of Pakistan can ensure that our youth is well educated, trained and better equipped to enter in the job market with ample opportunities available to them, he said.
Governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra said the incumbent government has started various youth skill development programs out of which Prime Minister Youth Skill Development Program is of much importance. Speaking on the occasion, Executive Director NAVTTC Zulfiqar Ahmed Cheema highlighted the importance of TVET, saying “equipping the youth with employable skills is the only solution to alleviate poverty and unemployment in Pakistan.”
He highlighted a number of achievements in the area of TVET sector reform, which include launching of the national TVET policy, National Vocational Qualifications Framework, Competency Based Training, accreditation of TVET programmes and National Skills Information System. He appreciated the support of all the development partners for introducing reforms in the TVET sector of Pakistan.
