India cannot suppress liberation movement: Mirwaiz

Srinagar—The Chairman of his own Hurriyet forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, has said that India cannot suppress the Kashmiris’ ongoing liberation movement by putting curbs on the movement and activities of Hurriyet leaders.
Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, who is under house arrest in Srinagar, in a statement said that such cheap tactics would never work as Kashmir was an internationally recognized dispute and people could not be forced to give up their just struggle through use of oppressive and suppressive measures against them.He said that the PDP-BJP regime was deliberately placing curbs on the peaceful activities of Hurriyet leadership and the freedom-loving people of Kashmir but it would not succeed in its nefarious designs in the territory.
The Mirwaiz strongly condemned the continued house arrest and illegal detention of the All Parties Hurriyet Conference Chairman, Syed Ali Gilani and the Chief of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Chairman, Muhammad Yasin Malik. He said that these tactics would not yield any results and would in fact make the Hurriyet leadership and resistance movement stronger.
He also demanded an impartial probe into the mysterious killing of Mudasir Ahmad Rather, a student from Simthan area of Bijbehara who was studying at Chandigarh. “Providing security to Kashmiri students studying in different states of India is the responsibility of the respective state governments,” he said.
The Mirwaiz talked to the father of the deceased youth over phone and expressed solidarity with him.
Meanwhile, Hurriyet leader, Mukhtar Ahmad Waza, visited Simthan and expressed condolences with the bereaved family.—KMS
