Independence Day dawned in Karachi with gun salute

The 71st independence day anniversary celebrations in Karachi dawned on Tuesday with gun salute followed by an early morning Change of Guard ceremony at Mazar-e-Quaid.
A smartly attired contingent of cadets from Pakistan Naval Academy assumed the responsibility to guard the mausoleum of the father of the nation with Commodore Waqar Ahmed, Commandant Pakistan Naval Academy as the chief guest at the ceremony.
The interim Chief Minister of Sindh, Fazal-ur-Rehman along with members of provincial cabinet and officials belonging to Karachi administration attended the special national flag hoisting ceremony held on the premises of the mausoleum.
Students from different schools of the metropolis on the occasion sang national anthem and songs in love of the country.
Dignitaries including Director General of Pakistan Rangers – Sindh, Major General, Muhammad Saeed and Mayor of Karachi, Waseem Akhter, besides the acting chief minister and his cabinet members offered Fateha and laid floral wreath at the mazar.
On the conclusion of the flag hoisting ceremony and departure of the authorities the gates of Mazar were opened for general public and people from all walks of life poured in large numbers to pay their respect and tribute to Father of Nation Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah and his comrades buried on the premises.
Different political parties and youth groups brought out rallies from across the metropolis which culminated at Mazar-e-Quaid. Special cake cutting ceremonies were arranged by different organisations while the day itself appeared to be no less than a festival for children and youth attired in national as well as dress of their choice but all in green and white colors.
A day long program to celebrate the Independence Day was also organised at Karachi Press Club largely attended by members and their families.
