Islamabad—The Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation organized a colourful events, including fireworks, in connection with Independence Day celebrations here at the Parade Ground on Sunday night.
A large number of people from the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad witnessed the colourful activities.
IMC Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz, who was the chief guest on the occasion, said he would make allout efforts to make the Capital city more beautiful and modern according to the vision of the Prime Minister.
It may be added that the IMC has displayed banners and posters across the city felicitating the residents of Capital on Independence Day.
Meanwhile, the Capital development Authority (CDA) also organised a number of events including Table Tennis Tournament, Young Award Show at Pak China Friendship Centre, three-day Azadi Mela at Fatima Jinnah Park (F-9), Birds Show at Lake View Park and a cultural show at Arts and Craft Village in connection with Independence Day celebrations. Azadi Tourist Train also run from F-9 Park to Lake View Park.
A flag hosting ceremony was held on Sunday here at Rawalpindi Arts Council to mark the Independence Day. RAC Resident Director Waqar Ahmed accompanied by Khubaib Foundation Chairman Nadeem Ahmed Khan hosted the flag. The purpose of the ceremony was to include orphans in the Independence Day celebrations, said a press release.
Speaking on the occasion, Waqar Ahmed said the citizens should celebrate independence with commitment to play their role for the progress of the country.
Nadeem Ahmed Khan highlighted services of leaders of Pakistan Movement and paid tribute to them. He urged the citizens to play a role to end illiteracy and poverty.
Children presented national songs at the end of the ceremony.
A flag hoisting ceremony was held here at the Commissioner Office on Sunday to mark the 69th Independence Day.
Commissioner Rawalpindi Azmat Mehmood, MPA Tehseen Fawad, Zaib-un-Nisa, District Coordination Officer Talat Mehmood Gondal, City Police Officer Israr Ahmed Abbasi, Additional Commissioner Tariq Mehmood and other officials attended the ceremony.
National Anthem was also played on the occasion.
The Civil Defence personnel blew the siren at 8:55 am and a smart contingent of police presented guard of honour.
Special Dua was offered for the martyrs of operation Zarb-e-Azb, who laid down their lives in the line of duty and for the prosperity of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, the Commissioner said,”It is our utmost duty to protect our motherland and we should be fully prepared to offer any sacrifice at the time of need.”
Meanwhile, Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) on Sunday arranged a Flag-hoisting ceremony to mark the Independence day with traditional zeal and enthusiasm.
Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Rai Niaz Ahmad hoisted the national flag on the main campus while deans of all faculties, administrative officers, faulty members, employees and a large number of students attended the ceremony. National anthem was also played.
The Independence day was celebrated with renewed pledge to make the country strong, prosperous and invincible through own resources, solidarity, honesty and hard work. The campus was decorated beautifully with national flag, buntings, banners, posters and arches. The day dawned with special prayers in the Jamia Masjid of the varsity for the progress, prosperity and security of the country.
Speaking on the occasion, the VC congratulated the university employees and students on celebrating the Independence day and asked them to work hard with honesty and dedication for the progress of the PMAS-AAUR and the country.
He highlighted the importance of Independence day and said that Pakistan is a fort of Islam and struggle for independent state was based on two nation theory which makes us historically and ideologically prominent among others. He also called for remembering the services of leaders of Pakistan movement and our forefathers who sacrificed their lives for the achievement of the motherland.
The VC informed the gathering that University’s students have reached Quetta to participate in Independence day celebrations as a part of Youm-Yakjehti-Karwan to show solidarity with people of Balochistan.
He remarked that we could make the country stronger, developed and progressive if we succeeded to gain updated knowledge according to the current day demands to compete in all fields and to fulfill the dreams of leaders of Pakistan movement and the founders of the country.
