In a gruesome incident yet another candidate for the forthcoming elections this time Ikramullah Gandpur of the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf fell victim to the wave of terrorism unleashed since July 10.
A former Agriculture Minister of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gandapur who was contesting from PK 99 DI Khan on PTI ticket was martyred when his land cruiser was targeted by a suicide bomber near Kulachi leaving Ikramullah Gandapur and a dozen others seriously wounded. The injured included three Police men.
The victims were first shifted to DHQ hospital and later to the Combined Military Hospital D I Khan where Gandapur and his driver lost the battle for their lives despite hectic efforts by the medics. Reports said Ikramullah Gandapur was leaving for electioneering along with his comrades when a suicide bomber blew himself close to his vehicle. The police said that severed limbs of the suicide bomber have been recovered from the blast site adding investigations were under way.
It may be mentioned that Ikramullah Gandapur’s younger brother Israrullah Gandapur also a veteran politician from DI Khan and KP Minister for Law was killed in a suicide blast in the same Kulachi district on October 16, 2013. Their father, Sardar Inayatullah Khan Gandapur, served as the Chief Minister of then NWFP in the 1970s
