Ministry of Law and Justice on Thursday issued notification of removal of Islamabad High Court (IHC) Judge Shuakat Aziz Siddiuqi in pursuance of Supreme Judicial Council recommendation which led President of Pakistan for removal of Siddiqui form the post of the Judge who was incapable of performing duties of his office while declared guilty of misconduct.
On October 11, Supreme Judicial Council recommended the removal of the IHC Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui on the grounds of misconduct under Article 209 (6) of the Constitution of Pakistan. Council said in its opinion, “This Council is unanimously of the opinion that in the matter of making his speech before the District Bar Association Rawalpindi on July 21,2018 Mr. Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui, Judge Islamabad High Court had displayed conduct unbecoming of a Judge of a High Court and was, thus, guilty of misconduct and he is therefore, liable to be removed from his office under Article 206(6) of the Constitution of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, 1973.”Under the Article 209 (6) the Council will send its opinion to President of Pakistan for removal of a Judge of High Court who incapable of performing duties of his office or has been guilty of misconduct. After receiving opinion of the Council, the President of Pakistan will remove the guilty Judge from his office.
Earlier, the Council had issued show-cause notice to Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui over his speech at Rawalpindi District Bar Association where he had leveled serious allegations against spy agencies.—TLTP
