IHC dismisses petition against Mehmood Achakzai

Islamabad—Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Wednesday dismissed a petition against leader of Pakhtunkhwa Milli Awami Party (PKMAP) Mehmood Khan Achakzai after hearing detailed arguments about maintainability of the case. Justice Athar Minallah heard the plea filed by Prof. Waheed Kamal against Mehmood Khan Achakzai for giving controversial remarks about Afghan migrants on the floor of the National Assembly.
The counsel for the petitioner argued that Speaker National Assembly didn’t take action gainst the MNA for giving such controversial remarks.
He prayed the court to direct Speaker NA to take action against Mehmood Khan Achakzai.
After hearing the arguments, the court remarked that the parliamentary proceeding couldn’t be discussed in the court and subsequently dismissed the plea. It may be mentioned here that the applicant Waheed Ahmed Kamal took a stance in his petition that Achakzai stirred up a controversy by saying that Khyber Pakhtunkhwa belonged to Afghans and they can live there without seeking permission.
He said that Achakzai should not give such a controversial statement being a member of the National Assembly.—APP
