Islamabad—The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has ordered the Federal Board of Education and Secondary Education (FBISE) to remove a sociology book from the market containing objectionable content about the Baloch nation.
The book while giving a history and background of the tribe, says they are rude and quarrelsome. Justice Athar Minallah of IHC conducted the hearing of the case. During the hearing Yasir Chaudhry, counsel of petitioner Jehangir Aslam appeared before the court while Ali Asghar Malik appeared before the court on behalf of FBISE. The court directed the administration to submit a report within two weeks in this regard. The counsel of FBISE informed the court that controversial portions of the book had already been removed.
The petitioner said that the book about the Baloch nation used offensive language about Balochistan on page 112, which had hurt the prestige of the region. He asked for the book to be withdrawn from the syllabus of the educational board and its sale and purchase to be banned completely. In the petition, Chairman Higher Education Commission, the Ministry of CAAD, the Chief Commissioner and Chairman FBISE have been made parties.
Earlier, the Islamabad High Court (IHC) had issued notices to the Chairman Higher Commission (HEC), Ministry of CADD, Chairman of the Federal Board and Chief Commissioner of Islamabad in a petition regarding anti-Baloch content in Intermediate and degree-level Sociology books.
Justice Athar Minallah while hearing the petition had sought a reply within two weeks. Jahangir Aslam Baloch, the petitioner through Advocate Yasir Mehmood has moved a plea in the IHC drawing the court’s attention toward the ‘hate content’ in the books of Sociology (Intermediate and Secondary). According to the petition it is written in these books that the Baloch people are rude and bad-mannered.
The petitioner has challenged the use of ‘derogatory’ words against the Baloch nation and called upon the court to suspend all such books that describe the Baloch nation as uncivilized and uncouth.
