IHC bar urges SJC to expedite hearing against judges behind illegal appointments

The office-bearers of the Islamabad High Court Bar Association (IHCBA) have demanded of the Supreme Judicial Council (SJC) to quickly decide reference pending against those responsi-ble for illegal appointments in the Islamabad High Court.
Addressing a press conference, IHCBA general secretary Mohammad Waqas Malik demanded of the SJC to decide the said reference as a three member bench of the Supreme Court on Sep-tember 26, 2016 not only declared the scores of appointments made during the tenure of Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman former Chief Justice IHC but also observed that these appointments were made on pick and choose basis.
It may be mentioned that Mohammad Idrees Khan Kasi younger brother of the incumbent IHC Chief Justice is among the illegally ap-pointees. Following the court verdict, some sacked IHC employees filed petitions requesting the apex court to review its decision but the apex court dismissed these petitions while upholding September 26 verdict.
“Justice Iqbal Hameedur Rehman on call of conscience tendered res-ignation and we are expecting that others would follow his footsteps” said advocate Malik.
He however said that being general secretary of IHCBA, he filed the reference before the SJC four months back which is still pending for adjudication. The landmark SC judgment of Sept 26 had observed that the appointments in the IHC were made by “abusing authority” and via “cherry picking.”
