IGP underlines importance of cops pre-poll training

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Punjab Dr Syed Kaleem Imam has said that no negligence will be tolerated in the pre-election training.
Presiding over a session of senior officers of Elite Force at Central Police Office here on Thursday, he said that refresher courses for short period of three, five and seven days for the Elite Force personnel should be started immediately at police station level.
He said that trainers and other officers should play their role for capacity building of the young personnel to enhance the security management regarding polling duties with the help of different courses.
The IG Punjab directed Additional IG Elite Police force Shahid Haneef to conduct a video link conference with all the RPOs and DPOs and to conclude all pre-election training in all districts and regions of Punjab under their supervision.
He said that to ensure transparent election in peaceful environment, we will have all the support by the commandos of elite police force and these commandos will particularly be deployed for security of sensitive polling stations.
The IG Punjab directed the officers of Elite Force that before elections, all possible measures should be taken to enhance professional skills of the force in all districts.
He said that prompt action should be taken against any individual or political party which will try to sabotage peace, violate law or create obstruction in the polling process. Additional IGs, DIGs and other senior officers were also present.
Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Punjab Dr Syed Kaleem Imam met IG Railways Police Dr Mujeeb-ur-Rehman Khan at Central Police Office here on Thursday.
They discussed areas of cooperation and different issues of common interest. IG Police Railways also congratulated Kaleem Imam over taking the charge as IGP Punjab.
On the occasion, the police chiefs agreed on improving information sharing between the two departments. The IGP Punjab said that Railway Police, in collaboration with the Punjab Police, should take effective action to restrict the movement of criminals and anti-social elements.
He said that both police forces should enhance mutual cooperation to increase capacity building of officers and officials.
He said that being provincial police officer, he had adopted better policies to solve problems of his force because it was crystal clear that if head of department cares about his force, it would automatically enhance morale of force. The IGP Punjab also presented a souvenir to IG Railways.
