Karachi—The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Sindh, A.D. Khawaja, has taken notice of the media reports regarding sale of liquor in some areas of Hyderabad.
A police spokesman said here on Sunday that the IGP has sought an immediate and detailed report in this connection from the DIG Hyderabad.
The IGP directed that steps be initiated in accordance with the law for curbing the sale of liquor and action be taken against the elements involved in this illegal practice.
Previous month, Sindh High Court (SHC) had issued orders to police and excise authorities to ensure immediate closure of all wine shops across the province with immediate effect.
According to our correspondent, the court directed DG Excise and Taxation and Inspector General Sindh Police to immediate implement its orders.
Representatives of Christian, Hindu and Sikh communities have also opposed sale of wine. The courtroom resonated with applause after the court’s decision, our correspondent said.
