IGP directs ITP to respect citizens, maintain rule of law

Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Sultan Azam Taimori Sunday directed the Islamabad Traffic Police (ITP) to treat the citizens of federal capital with respect and ensure the implementation of law during duty. “Islamabad Traffic Police is known as a model force in the country and its performance will be further improved,” he said this during his visit to the ITP office after taking charge as IGP.
On his arrival at the ITP office, Sultan Azam Taimori was given guard of honour by a contingent of police. SSP Traffic Malik Matloob Ahmed, SP Khalid Rashid and other officers were present on the occasion.
Addressing the ITP officials on the occasion, Azam Taimori said he had great attachment and affiliation with the ITP as he held its command twice and started his career from it.
He said it was their vision to make police an exemplary force so that people could cite examples of it at the international level.
Taimori said more training opportunities would be provided to the police so that it could continue with its good work and serve the people.
He said the mission of the traffic police was to maintain road discipline so that road accidents could be avoided. “Police can change thinking of the people,” he said, adding the police should be people friendly while enforcing the law.
He urged the police to adopt professional attitude, help citizens, ensure rule of law and keep the police force corruption free.
He stressed that the police should focus on enforcement and traffic regulation so that no violation was committed.
Taimori said more projects would be announced for welfare of police force. “My doors are open for police officers and jawans and they can meet him for their personal matters,” he added. An SMS service would be started through which policemen could contact him round the clock, he said. The IGP expressed the hope that all officers would serve the people with sincerity and honesty.—APP
