IG Sindh orders survey of roads

Karachi—The Inspector General of Sindh Police, A.D. Khawaja has ordered the Karachi Traffic Police to conduct survey of the roads in order to assess the volume of traffic during different hours of a day.
The police spokesman informed here Tuesday that the IG issued the directives in view of the complaints of traffic logjams during certain hours of a day. The IG asked the police officials to ensure that not only traffic jam problem on any given road was immediately addressed but the district police should also maintain strict vigilance to avoid any robbery from the commuters.
The IG asked the traffic police officials to survey which roads in Karachi take the higher volume of traffic during which hours of a day and also to coordinate with the government and private offices, educational institutions and markets to make a comprehensive traffic plan.
Khawaja directed the DIG traffic to deploy the SSPs of traffic in each district of Karachi to personally monitor the traffic during rush hours and to suggest alternate routes to the commuters through the traffic wardens and other modes of communication. He emphasized on the need of improving Karachi traffic management and regulatory system and bringing it at par with those in the mega cities of the developed world.
Khawaja asked the traffic police to ensure deployment of the traffic wardens at all the major roads, inter-sections, u-turns and other traffic junctions.—APP
