Humam upset Ibrahim to win PSB Independence Day Squash title

Peshawar—Humam Ahmad upset top seed Ibrahim Mohib by winning the coveted trophy and cash prize of Rs. 500 in the PSB Independence Day Junior Squash Championship played here PSB Mohib Ullah Khan Squash Complex on Friday.
Director Operation Directorate of Sports Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tariq Mehmood was the chief guest on this occasion. PSB Mohib Ullah Khan Squash Academy coaches Pervez Ali, Shehzad Mohib, trainer Adil Khan, players, officials and game spectators were also present.
The final between top seed Ibrahim Mohib and second seed Humam Ahmad in the Under-11 category produced excellent display of squash as both the players gave each other a tough fight. Ibrahim Mohib marched into victory in the first set by 10-12. The set was tied more than three occasions at 4-4, 8-8, 9-9, 10-10 and thus at the end, Ibrahim got the set.
On the other hands, Humam Ahmad after conceding a set, managed his position and succeeded in leveling the tally 1-1 when he got the second set by 11-9. When the two promising teenagers were tied, there were some long rallies witnessed with perfect nick and drop shorts from both Ibarhim Mohib and Humam Ahmad.
Humam come up more aggressively by utilizing his energy and succeeded in keeping Ibrahim Mohib on the back foot. Humam hits some perfect cross court smashes as a result he got the second by 11-9. In the fourth set, this was Ibrahim Mohib who took the lead of 1-5, 2-7 and 3-9 but Humam came back strongly by winning the set 11-9 before leveling it at 9-9. In the Under-13 category Ghulam Muhammad defeated Hammad by 3-2 in a thrilling match. The score was 11-5, 6-11, 11-8, 4-11 and 11-8.
Speaking on this occasion, Shehzad Mohib thanked DG Pakistan Sports Board Dr. Akhtar Nawaz Ganjera, Director Sports Mumtaz Ahmad Nadeem for extended all out support in holding the event in connection with the Independence Day Celebration.
He said all the 12 players associated with PSB Mohib Ullah Khan Squash Academy, took part in the event organized on league basis. In the Under-11 category top seed Ibrahim Mohib and second seed Humam Ahmad played the final.
He said also congratulated the nation that Pakistani players won the World Junior Squash title after a lapse of eight years. He disclosed that Mehran Javed, who is part of the World Junior Squash team, has a member of the PSB Mohib Ullah Squash Academy. He said Director PSB Coaching Center Mumtaz Ahmad Nadeem has ensured all facilities to the players of Academy like honoraria and squash gears including rackets and balls.
Tariq Mehmood appreciated PSB for holding Independence Day Squash and congratulated the winners. He also awarded Rs. 500 to each category winners, trophies and certificates.—APP
