HRC seeks police report in Pulwama youth’s killing case

State Human Rights Commission has issued notice to the senior superintendent of police and the district magistrate Pulwama asking them to file compliance report in the case of killing of a youth in the district two days ago. The petition has been filed by rights activists Muhammad Ahsan Untoo.
The officers were asked to file the detailed compliance report within “minimum period of time”. The commission asked the SSP and the DM to explain the circumstances in which the youth was killed and another injured.
Fayaz Ahmad Wani son of Muhammad Ahsan Wani of Chewa-Kalan had sustained a firearm injury during the clashes on Monday in the district.
He was shifted to district hospital Pulwama where from he was referred to SMHS hospital in critical condition. Wani later succumbed to his injuries. One more youth Arif Ahmad Dar was also injured.
At the time of a cordon-and-search-operation in village Gusoo in the district on Monday, officials had earlier said a group of youth started pelting stones at the forces at some places. Two persons were injured in the firing by the forces during clashes in Gusoo village.
They had said that the forces launched the cordon-and-search operation in over a dozen villages in Pulwama in the morning, following information about the presence of militants in the area.
Meanwhile, in another petition filed by Untoo against alleged thrashing of a civilian by cops, the commission has issued notices to SSP and DM Anantnag asking them to submit a detailed report in the matter.—GK
