Hot spell forecast for Karachi

Staff Reporter

Karachi—The Meteorological Department has forecast hot weather for Karachi where the mercury can touch 38 to 40 degrees Celsius from Friday to next Monday. The authorities concerned plan to open 500 response centres to provide shelter and cold water to people if a heat-wave warning is issued, a government official said.
Karachi suffered its hottest spell in decades last year where extreme heat killed more than 1,000 people during the month of Ramadan. Departments concerned have started gearing up to tackle any sudden rise of patients who report heat-related illnesses.
