Honour killing

Guljan Shay Ibrahim

Honour violence is a form of abuse that shames, hurts or kills thousands of women and girls. Honour violence is usually observed as physical and sometimes includes mental, rape, sexual assaults or killing for ransom. Unfortunately, the females become the easiest victims who are subjected to forced marriages and general mutilation.
It involves many perpetrators within the family or community. According to United Nations, 5,000 women had become the victim of honour killing the previous year, and similarly, 20,000 women are reportedly killed worldwide every year. India, Bangladesh, Afghanistan and Pakistan, besides some other Asian countries are at high peak with respect to honour violence. The United Nations and other human organisations are, therefore, requested to take solid measures to eradicate this problem immediately and save women from this social evil.
