HESCO starts crackdown against power thieves

Nawabshah—Massive crackdown has started against power consumers found involved in electricity theft and women task force has also been constituted to nab these defaulters.
This was stated by Superintending Engineer Hy-derabad Electric Supply Company (HESCO) Nawabshah Circle, Farooq Ahmed Afgan in an informal talk with media persons at Nawabshah Press Club on Saturday.
He said that government announced strict pun-ishments for power thieves, that included up to three years imprison-ment and fine of Rs 10 million. He pointed out that those found stealing power through kunda system would also have to face imprisonment of three years and fine of Rs 3 million.
He said that consumers using commercial or industrial meters detected in manipulating the meter would face imprisonment of three years, fine of Rs 6 million or both punishments at the same time.
He said that agriculture consumers found involved in tempering of meters would also face the similar music. Farooq Afghan said that Hesco had removed 284 transformers in different areas on account of nonpayment of metering charges. He advised people to make payment of bills in banks as it was received by Hesco on daily basis and amount was not added in next coming bill.
Executive Engineer Hesco Gulzar Ahmed Dasti said that public should point out power thieves and their facilitators on which immediate action would be initiated. He said that Women Task Force of Hesco would check the air conditioners and other electrical applicances inside the house and would act accordingly on the spot.—APP
