Health hazards of chocolate

Theobromine is a toxicant which is the major ingredient of Chocolate. Theobromine is a bitter alkaloid substance, a part of the genre of substances known as Methyl Xanthines, making it chemically related to Caffeine, among other stimulants. It is because of this substance that dark Chocolate has bitter flavour and thus has harmful effects on human health.
It has unfortunately becomes a social trend to eat chocolate and the children and also the youth are the most vulnerable classes of the human beings. It is more harmful for children who develop a regular habit to eat chocolate. It can cause sleeplessness and increased production of urine and vomiting. The signs of Theobromine poisoning are nausea, vomiting, diarrhoea, and increased urination. A balance needs to be observed in our eating habits and so it is imperative for the parents and the elders to protect the children against excessive use of chocolates, with a view to shielding them against future health complications.
