Gwadar airport to give boost to CPEC

GWADAR international airport to be capable of handling the largest of passenger planes including the A380 Boeing jet is being constructed at a cost of $ 260 million dollars, and the amount for the airport is a full grant from the Chinese friends. Since the Gwadar international airport is an important segment of the multi billion dollar game changer China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project, therefore early implementation of this project is vital to accrue full benefit from the corridor project.
To make the Gwadar port fully operational and hub of regional trade, it is important that the port city’s air, rail and road links are developed in a satisfactory manner as per the international standards. According to the Chinese and our government officials, the Gwadar port will be made fully operational by the end of this year, therefore, it has become all the more necessary that Gwadar airport project, which is being dubbed as the country’s biggest and most modern landing field be implemented at the earliest in order to facilitate the visiting businessmen who are showing great interest for investment in the Gwadar special economic zone. The airport project will indeed serve as a catalyst for enhancing investment and development in Gwadar and catering to the requirements of a bustling industrial commercial city. We have no doubt in mind that the facility, because of its geo strategic location, will serve as a major hub for international flights operating in the region. Additionally, emphasis should also be laid on the skill development of the local population so that they could get jobs and fully exploit the economic activities to be generated by the execution of mega projects under the CPEC. While we appreciate the government for planning to establish Gwadar University for the promotion of higher education in the so far neglected area, it is also heartening to note that Chinese government has also given a grant of ten million dollars for building the Pakistan-China Vocational and Technical Institute. We expect that the government will not waste any time in the implementation of this important project, as it will make the local youth ready to take up technical jobs at the port and make it a success story.
