Gun and Country Club is illegal: SC ruled

The Supreme Court on Monday declared the Gun and Country Club Islamabad illegal and directed ministry of sports to take management of the club.
A three-judge bench headed by Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar passed the directions while hearing a case regarding the club and the construction of a marriage hall on its premises.
Chief Justice remarked that land on which the club had been established belongs to Pakistan Sports Board or Capital Development Authority (CDA) and people who got members of the club took membership at their own risk.
During course of proceedings, Chief Justice observed that here was no legal approval for the construction of the club and referred the matter regarding returning membership fee to the relevant ministry.
Clubs counsel informed the court that CDA leased the land to Pakistan Sports Board and the board subleased the land to the club.—APP
