Karachi—Governor Sindh Dr. Ishrat Ul Ebad Khan has said that for provision of better transport facilities, implementation of Karachi Mass Transit Programme (KMTP) was of utmost importance and Green Line was an essential component of Karachi Mass Transit Programme (KMTP) as it is aimed at providing state of the art travelling facilities to tens of thousands of commuters daily.
This he said during a briefing on the progress of Green Line of Rapid Bus Transit Route, at Governor House, said a statement on Friday.
Chief Executive Officer Karachi Infrastructure Development Company Ltd. (KIDCL), Saleh Ahmed Farooqui, Secretary Governor Sindh Akhtar Ghori and other concerned officers also attended the meeting.
Governor said that various mass transit corridors have been identified in master plan for Karachi which include Green, Orange, Yellow, Blue, Brown lines and Karachi Circular Railway and with their completion Karachiites would enjoy much improved commuting assistance on modern basis and these are pivotal part of infrastructure development of Karachi.
He said that it was an encouraging news that work on 21.7 km Green Line from Surjani to Municipal Park M.A. Jinnah Road is progressing rapidly.
It is 11.7 km is elevated while 10 km is on ground, the Governor added.
He said that an improved travelling system is a symbol of any developing city and as such this project has been initiated to achieve this aim.
After improvement in law and order in Karachi it was the time to divert all attention towards development portfolio of the province and it was our collective responsibility to make joint efforts in this regard, so as to make Karachi city of lights once again.
Governor stated that this is our city and we all have to ensure its progress and prosperity by utilizing all of our abilities. We should all put together efforts to make our province clean and green and ensure that garbage is disposed off property, he added.
Governor was informed on the occasion that the work of shifting of utilities have been completed on the routes of Orange and Green lines.
The Green Line was from Surjani to Grumandir initially but it has been extended to municipal park M.A. Jinnah Road thus enhancing its length from 18.4 km to 21.7 km, it was further informed.
He was also informed that 23% work has been completed on the portion from Nazimabad to Grumandir, while 30% work has been completed on the portion from Nagan Chowrangi to Nazimabad besides the work on Surjani to Nagan Chowrangi is being progressing rapidly.
Shifting of pumping stations of KW&SB from KDA chowrangi and Board office is also being undertaken while their capacity is also being increased to facilitate to locals, it was added.
Governor was further informed that flyovers would also constructed at Sakhi Hassan, Five Star and KDA chowrangi on the route of green line while its stations are equipped with state of the art facilities for older people and children. It was informed that the project would be completed by December 2017.
