PM directs no person be made jobless
The federal government on Tuesday decided to dissolve the Ministry of States and Frontier Regions (SAFRON) following the merger of Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata) with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
After the merger of Fata, the provincial government will look over the affairs of the tribal areas which is why we have decided to dissolve the Ministry of SAFRON, stated Information Minister Fawad Chaudhary on Tuesday.
“There are over 1.7 million Afghan refugees in the country who are our guests and we want them to be safely repatriated,” Chaudhry added.
Further, official sources said the government has also decided to close down the Fata Secretariat.
“The Ministry of Interior overlooks the issues of refugees which is why the four Afghan commissionerates and chief commissioner for Afghan refugees which were reporting to the Ministry of SAFRON will now be under the interior ministry,” sources added.
A decision will be also be taken regarding whether the Levies and Khasadar force should be under the federal or the provincial government.. 17,000 Khasadar Force troops and 11,000 Levies personnel are deployed in the tribal areas.
Meanwhile chairing a meeting on FATA merger, Prime Minister Imran Khan said that job opportunities will be created for the tribal youth. He directed that no person is rendered unemployed as a result of administrative measures. He also directed that the quota of tribal youth should be ensured in schools, colleges and universities.
The prime minister also directed that efforts be expedited for the establishment of local government system in the areas. He also assured that resources will be provided for the development schemes in the tribal areas. In addition, he said, the federal government will also play its role in getting share for the tribal areas in the NFC.
