Govt accords priority to mother, child health

District Health Officer Dr. Muzaffar Shah has said that the Health department in collaboration with the National Program for Family Planning and Primary Healthcare has launched a week long ‘Mother and Child health’ program in all union councils of the district. He said while speaking at the opening ceremony of the Week that would be continued till Sep 30th and focuses on mother and child health and public awareness activities.
Superintendent Dr. Akhter Mandokhail, Dr. Zahid Mehmood, Coordinator EPI Dr. Zain-ud-Din, Focal Person EPI Ismail, LHWs and LHVs in a large number attended the ceremony. DHO Dr. Muzaffar Shah said that the main objective of observing the week is to sensitize the masses to the health-related issues of pregnant women and newly-born babies to minimize the mortality rate.
Promoting awareness and services delivery on maternal, infants and child health care was the priority of the health department,” adding Health houses at UC level have been established and special focus is being given to rural population of the district.” DHO vowed. MS Dr. Akhter Mandokhail on the occasion said that the provincial government was committed to bring health care in the life of every individual in remote areas to build a healthy society. In order to achieve substantial improvements in the health sector, the government has initiated several activities which have a positive impact on the health care system. He said.
Focal Person EPI Ismail said besides the routine immunization, children 2-5 years of age would be provided medicines for abdominal worms and tetanus toxic (TT) vaccination for pregnant women during the week long campaign. “The health workers would provide services by paying door-to-door visits, mothers and babies would be vaccinated against diseases and will be provided with medicines for abdominal diseases.” Moreover, he said mothers would be guided about sanitation, safe drinking water, hygienic and other health-related awareness.
