The Governor, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Eng Iqbal Zafar Jhagra has said, the institutions of higher learning need to fully concentrate upon promotion of education; development of knowledge and strengthening research activities. This aspect, he added, bears great importance to enabling the nation to pace with the present day needs for its socio-economic uplift. He was addressing as the chief guest at the Convocation—2017 of the University of Peshawar at its campus on Monday. The vice chancellor of the University, Prof: Dr. Muhammad Asif Khan; provincial secretary Higher Education, Syed Zafar Ali Shah; faculty members, graduating students and their parents were present on the occasion.
Highlighting the importance of higher learning, the Governor further observed that it is proving a big source in bringing positive impact in the life standards of the people. The youth, he added, are the hope of the nation as far as its future is concerned which greatly depends upon the role and value of services to be contributed by them in the time to come. The Governor asked the graduating students to continue their focus on seeking quality learning and they should apply their knowledge for projecting good name of the nation and their own-self as well. While felicitating the graduating students, he said, their successes reflect the success of the entire nation. Beyond doubt, he added, we have pinned extra expectations from those graduates who had earned distinctions in their respective disciplines. The Governor also advised the gold medallists to maintaining the level of their successes and making it their habit to learning and seeking knowledge.
Earlier, the Convocation for the session 2015 of the University of Peshawar was held on 30th October 2017 at University’s Convention Hall to commemorate the academic accomplishments of its students. As many as 344 students of the University of Peshawar (UoP) were awarded degrees in various disciplines. The governor bestowed degrees and medals upon the distinguished students. 317 master Degrees were awarded to the students of six faculties and 43 departments. Twenty five outstanding performers comprising 10 female and 15 male students – received gold medals, while 21 PhD scholars and 06 MPhil scholars were also awarded the highest research degrees.
While speaking to the students at the occasion, Vice Chancellor, University of Peshawar, Professor Dr Muhammad Asif Khan, congratulated the students and their parents on their splendid success and said that ‘ Universities and Institutions have gained significant importance to help impart the requisite education and fostering competencies to make productive citizen of Pakistan‘. University of Peshawar is taking necessary initiatives required for enhancing educational research activities. Scholarly research work and other forums of creative endeavors are essential for the sustained intellectual growth of any higher educational institution. He said that ‘it is a matter of great satisfaction and encouragement for all of us that university is effectively contributing in building up human resource of the country. On this occasion vice chancellors of the public sectors universities of KP, registrar UoP, Dr Zahid Gul, members of syndicate and senate, deans of faculties, students and their parents participated in the ceremony.
