Hyderabad—A girl sent to the custody of PPP MNA, Nadir Magsi as a ‘Saam’ in Hyderabad was killed in Qubo Saeed Khan, a town of the province bordering Balochistan.
The girl, Shabana Brohi of village Muhammad Bux Brohi left her home with Aijaz Magsi for court Marriage on August 19 this year. But she was returned back through ‘efforts’ of her ‘Biradri’ and was sent into ‘Saam’ (In Baloch culture Saam is the responsibility in that kind of situation, given to a person who is influential with good repute) for three days with PPP MNA, Nadir Magsi.
After three days, former Nazim of Qubo Saeed, Mir Ejaz Brohi accompanied Shabana Brohi to his village. According to reports Mir Ejaz Brohi gave Shabana Brohi into the custody of her uncles and cousins. Unfortunately, they killed the girl claiming her ‘Kari’.
Father of the killed girl, Abdul Nabi Brohi, mentioned names of two uncles and cousins of Shabana as her killers.
Father of Shabana Brohi, Abdul Nabi Brohi, had himself killed his female cousin for honour some years ago.
MNA Nadir Magsi said that he had sent the girl with her relatives as they promised for her security but they dodged us. All the names will be included in FIR and police will arrest them, he claimed.
When asked about the culture of ‘Karo-Kari’, Ghulam Murtaza Laghari advocate who has been a crime reporter for a Sindhi daily, said that the culture of ‘Karo-Kari’ is still prevalent in Baloch castes residing on the border of Sindh-Balochistan.
