Geelani, Mirwaiz arrested in Srinagar

Srinagar—In occupied Kashmir, Indian police arrested the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyet Conference, Syed Ali Geelani and the head of Hurriyet forum, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, as they tried to lead the march towards the UN office at Sonawar in Srinagar, Wednesday.
The police took Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umar Farooq into custody as they defied their house detentions and tried to march towards the UN office. They were lodged at Humahama and Nigeen police stations, respectively.

The occupation authorities continued to put Hurriyet leaders including Syed Ali Geelani, Muhammad Yasin Malik, Shabbir Ahmed Shah and Agha Syed Hassan Al-Moosvi Al-Safvi under house arrest or in police custody to prevent them from leading the march.
The puppet authorities deployed Indian troops and police personnel in strength in Srinagar and other major towns while all roads leading to the UN office have been sealed. Internet and mobile services across the Valley remained suspended.—KMS
