Full spectrum Chinese support

CHINESE Foreign Minister Wang Yi, on Friday, reiterated his country’s ‘full spectrum’ support to Pakistan, a statement that carries much weight not only for Pakistan but also conveys a strong message to all those harbouring ill-intentions towards the country in the given geo-political scenario. The reiteration of the Chinese stance came during an in-depth meeting of Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa with the Chinese FM in which two sides discussed key strategic issues of the region.
Though there was no official explanation of the term ‘full spectrum’ support but those having a close eye on the nature of Pak-China relations understand well how bilateral ties are expanding and deepening meaningfully in diverse fields and how China has been extending political and material support to issues of core interest to Pakistan and strengthening of security and defence of the country. It was not a coincidence that as the Chinese Minister was extending firm assurance of support, spokesperson of his Ministry declared at the regular news briefing in Beijing that Kashmir was a left-over issue from history and needs to be resolved through discussion and dialogue between Pakistan and India. Beijing has also rejected Indian frivolous objections to passage of CPEC from GB and its possible extension to Azad Kashmir. China has also been blocking India’s bid to malign Pakistan on the issue of terrorism and is supportive of Islamabad’s stance on membership of the Nuclear Suppliers Group. China is presently the only country that is providing assistance to Pakistan in the implementation of its nuclear energy vision, which is vital for the country in view of existing electricity shortfall and rapidly growing demand for energy as the country makes advances in the economic field. As General Bajwa conveyed to the Chinese Minister, Pakistan is also pursuing a policy of good neighbourly relations with India and Afghanistan for the sake of peace, security and progress of the region and this approach has widely been hailed by China that itself harbours no bad intentions against any country. We are confident that China-Pakistan understanding would increase and their mutual cooperation scale new heights given the commitment and determination of the leadership of the two countries to proceed ahead hand-in-hand on the path of peace and prosperity.
