Karachi—Four Rangers personnel were arrested over custodial death of MQM leader Farooq Sattar’s coordinator Aftab Ahmed on Tuesday.
According to Rangers’ high-level sources, the arrests took place after an internal inquiry into the death of Aftab.
The sources said that complete inquiry would be conducted into the incident. The Rangers sacrifices in restoring Karachi’s peace would not go in vain, they added.
Aftab had died in the custody on May 3, a day after the Rangers took 90-day remand of him from court. A postmortem report of Sattar’s coordinator confirmed that he was tortured prior to his death.
According to the autopsy report, the victim bore torture signs on 35 to 40 percent of his body.
The report revealed that major marks of torture were found on seven body parts of the victim, including his both arms, legs, head and chest.
“Multiple bruises found, which are variable in size in different regions of the body,” it said.
Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif ordered inquiry into the death, directing the relevant quarters to ensure that justice must be done.
Rangers also set up a fact-finding committee under sector commander to investigate the death.
