Former VC PU Mujahid Kamran, six others held

The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Lahore has arrested former vice chancellor (VC) of Punjab University Dr Mujahid Kamran on charges of illegally recruiting at least 550 persons and appointing his wife Shazia Qureshi as principal of varsity’s Law College.
The NAB has also taken into custody six persons including former PU VC, four registrars and an additional registrar. Former PU registrars Dr Orangzaib Alamgir, Dr Liaqat Ali, Raas Masood, Kamran Abid and an additional registrar Amin Azhar have been arrested for assisting the ex-VC in his illegal works, the official added.
As per allegations, Dr Mujahid in connivance with his subordinates illegally recruited over 550 persons in the varsity during the span of three years i.e., from 2013 to 2016, the official claimed. He added that all appointments were made in grade 17 or above.  “All the appointments were made in violation of merit selection rules and regulations,” sources said, adding: “Appointments were made on annual contractual basis which were subsequently regularised.
