Lahore—For the first time in the history of Punjab, Specialized Healthcare & Medical Education (SHC&ME) Department, on the same pattern of house jobs given to MBBS/BDS has decided to introduce one year house job for pharmacists too at all tertiary care hospitals across the province. Main objective of this program is to provide professional assistance to patients as well as doctors in achieving optimal patient satisfaction by promoting safe, rational and cost effective medication therapy.
According to a well-placed source in the Health Department, as many as 870 house jobs will be created at 39 teaching hospitals across the province. “About Rs 21.75 million would be spent annually in wake of stipends while induction process on these seats would start from next fiscal year 2016-2017,” he added.
He further revealed that like other doctors doing their house jobs, these pharmacists would also get Rs 25,000/month lump sum as stipend. Highlighting the procedures of their induction, he said these pharmacists would be inducted every year in April and June and they will be selected through National testing Service (NTS) to ensure that all the pharmacists are being tested by the same criteria. The test will be on competency basis; 50 % marks will be given on aptitude basis while the remaining 50% will be on their professional subjects.
He said this was an innovative idea as the department was very well aware of this fact that due to the shortage of pharmacists, all the burdens are on the shoulders of the nurses who while rendering their own prescribed duties are doing the extra duties of pharmacists too.
“Currently three nurses are assigned duties in a single ward and after induction of pharmacists extra burden would be removed from the nurses’ sides which resultantly would produce more positive results.
