A fire, categorized as third degree of intensity at a wood ware house in crowded Saddar area Monday morning, was finally controlled after several hours, says Mayor Karachi Waseem Akhtar who had been on the spot for supervising the operation.
Thick black smoke rose right into the sky, blackening the sight at various places, but luckily it was brought under control. Chief Fire Officer Tehseen Ahmed said inflammable material had been stocked at the spot which fed the blaze.
Flamce had also engulfed a pile of .garbage dump, located nearby. Part of a madrassah building nearby was completely damaged by the fire. No casualties were reported. However, heavy material losses were feared.
Waseem Akhtar, who arrived at the warehouse to review the efforts to put it out, expressed concern over the state of fire extinguishing services in the city.
