Farmers give suggestions for CM Kissan package utilization

Multan—Farmers of district Multan suggested for the utilization of Chief Minister Punjab’s Kissan package. Some of the suggestions include: 100 percent wheat procurement from farmers, early announcement of wheat procurement policy, inputs on subsidized rates, promotion of agricultural mechanization, establishment of cold storage, installation of tube well, Turbine on subsidized rates, provision of high quality and hybrid seeds of different crops, construction of silos for wheat storage and early announcement of support price for each crops.
The suggestions were presented in a meeting organized by district agriculture department to get the feedback of farmers regarding the utilization of recently announced multi-billion package, said EDO Agriculture Shafqat Bhutti while talking to APP here on Tuesday. The EDO agriculture stated that farmers ex-tended suggestions about the promotion of crops, livestock, fisheries, forests sector and flood control to avoid devastation.
Other suggestions are: Reduction of GST on agricultural inputs, writting off agri taxes for three years, flat rate of electricity for tube well at Rs 5/unit for period of two years, declaration of specific crop zones, crops and livestock insurance, concrete lining of watercourses, establishment of provincial agricul-ture disaster management department, provision of water and soil analysis labs at district level, provision of latest harvesting machinery for fruit plants, high technology sprayers, supply of tree pruning machinery on subsidy, introduction of artificial rainfall technology, agriculture export houses near international airports, announcement of new cooperative farming policy, easy agriculture loans, upgradation of agriculture research institutes, establishment of nurseries of healthy fruit plants, representation of farmers in Kissan Commission, water treatment plants, and introduction of mecha-nization hub to train farmers.
Similarly, cattle farmers suggested provision of funds for dairy sheds for small cattle farmers on 80:20 cost sharing basis, provision of feed mixture machinery, milking ma-chines on subsidized rates, diagnostic lab for poultry and livestock at district level, construction of slaughter-houses at union council level, provision of mobile veterinary services on pattern of Rescue 1122, and Cattle markets on modern lines.
EDO Shafqat stated that some farmers showed keen interest in fisheries sector. They stressed for provision of state land to fish farmers especially in salt affected areas, 50 percent subsidy on fish farms, subsidy on solar tube wells and interest free loans to small farmers, establish-ment of quality control lab for check on fish quality and hygiene, and installation of fish processing units for fish export.—APP
