Extremism and youngsters

Events unfolding in recent times point towards state’s failure to mobilize educated youngsters to shun playing in the hands of extremist elements. Eight youngsters killed in the Karachi encounter in the wee hours of last Sunday, suspected to be members of newly formed extremist group Ansar-ul-Sharia Pakistan (ASP) were reported to be highly educated. Architects of safoora carnage, awarded capital punishment, also graduated from the coveted institutions of Pakistan.
Predators that are polluting the young minds need to be nipped in the bud. This tilt of young educated minds towards extremism is frightening and seeks immediate attention. Lawmakers, academia, religious scholars and parents need to huddle on this issue to carve out a viable strategy to deter this dangerous trend.
