In a video clip posted on social media, a woman by the name of Elaha claimed that six months ago Saeed Khosti, the former spokesman for the Ministry of Interior, forced her into marriage and mistreated her during this time.
“They might kill me if this footage is released. I have no idea what will happen, but it’s better to die once than often.
Without any reason, he used to beat me every night,” Elaha said.
In response to these allegations, the former spokesperson for the interior ministry acknowledged his marriage to the woman on his Twitter page, but said that he had divorced her and had not mistreated her.
“I married a woman named Elaha six months ago, but later I discovered that she has a problem with belief. I made an effort to advise her, but it didn’t help. I have evidence that she has openly disparaged the Holy Quran and other sacred objects. I divorced her in accordance with Sharia law and I repent my hasty marriage. I have not misbehaved with her.
I apologize to the Afghan people and the Mujahidin of the Islamic Emirate, may Allah forgive me,” he tweeted.
This video clip has been widely shared on Facebook and Twitter and other social media platforms and has sparked many reactions from users.
“If the Taliban really believe in upholding justice, they should look into this woman’s case in a fair court, and we ask women’s rights activists and international human rights groups not to be indifferent about such cases,” said Maryam Arween, women’s rights activist.
