Every citizen will have access to quality education: Masood Khan


ISLAMABAD : Sardar Masood Khan, President Azad Kashmir said that effective and sustainable efforts will be made in order to ensure that quality higher education facilities are readily available to the masses of Azad Kashmir.

The President made these remarks while addressing the consultative meeting regarding the establishment of sub-campuses of the University of Poonch and Mirpur University of Science and Technology at Mong and Pallandri respectively.

The meeting was attended by Minister for Finance, Health & P&D Mr Najeeb Naqi, Vice Chancellor Poonch University Prof. Dr. Rasool Jan, Vice Chancellor MUST Prof Dr. Habib-ur-Rehman, representatives of the Higher Education Commission, Sudhnoti Education Conference, Public Works Department and District Administration of Mong.

President Masood Khan was apprised by Dr. Rasool Jan that selection of requisite land and its acquisition for Mong sub-campus was under way. Dr. Rasool informed that related issues were being addressed and key stakeholders were taken onboard in this regard.

The President who is also the Chancellor of public sector universities in AJK highlighted the need for introducing the disciplines of Educational Studies, Computer Sciences, English Language and Skill Development at Mong sub-campus to help better cater to the needs of aspiring students.

During the meeting the President constituted a sub-committee for the Mong sub-campus under the leadership of Dr. Najeeb Naqi to oversee the land acquisition matters and negotiate a workable solution with all stakeholders. The committee was directed to present their final report within one month.

President AJK said that we must expedite the establishment and recognition process of the sub-campuses in line with HEC requirements, without compromising on academic quality and professionalism.

Dr. Habib-ur-Rehman, VC MUST informed the President that necessary measures establishing of Pallandri sub-campus have been made. He added that a complete report in this regard would be submitted within the next three weeks.

The President commended the role of HEC Chairman Prof. Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad and the HEC’s management for their utmost cooperation in promoting tertiary education in AJK.

Emphasizing the need to build a state of the art sub-campus, the President said that Mong and Pallandri sub-campuses must effectively address the educational aspect, housing for staff and hostel facilities for students. He urged that requisite steps in this regard must be taken in the initial stages in order to facilitate students and the university staff of the sub-campuses.

President Masood Khan said, “Our focus is on imparting quality education at all levels”, further adding, “Access to quality education for the people is their fundamental right and the responsibility of the AJK Government.”
