Rawalpindi Cantonment Board (RCB) on Friday confiscated five truckload goods from different markets in its special operation against encroachments and imposed fine of Rs100,000 on food outlets for unhygienic condition. Various shopkeepers in different areas were fined while a number of shopkeepers indulging in encroachments were issued notices.
According to RCB spokesman Qaiser Mahmood, the teams conducted operations in Chur Chowk, Saddar, Chungi number 22, Misrial and other areas.
He said, the anti-encroachment team confiscated handcarts, tables, counters and other goods from different areas. The operation, he said, is being conducted on daily basis while permanent and temporary encroachments are being removed from various areas to smoothen the flow of traffic and movement of pedestrians.
Meanwhile, the food branch of RCB also conducted raids and imposed Rs100,000 fines on City Hut, Fast Food, Munchees Fast Food, New International Bargar and dry fruit shops on unhygienic conditions.
As many as 20 shopkeepers on unsatisfactory hygienic condition were also issued notices and warned of action in accordance with the law if they fail to meet cleanliness standard. The team also collected 32 food samples from different shops which have been sent for lab analysis. Further action would be taken against them on receipt of laboratory report. Cantt Special Judicial Magistrate, under 23PF Act imposed Rs 32,400 fine on various food outlets for using substandard edible items.
