Peshawar—Amid the ongoing operation Khyber, the second leg of military operation Zerb-e-Azb, the security forces Thursday wee hours repulsed ambush at their security check post by the terrorists in Khyber agency and mowed down at least five miscreants in the exchange of fire.
The military sources said a group of insurgents launched attack on the security forces check post in Darmu Drab Pass in the Khyber agency around 2 a.m. yet the valiant jawaans of the security forces retaliated the ambush with full might. As an exchange of fire ensued, as many as five assaulters were killed by the forces making the trouble makers retreat. The force took the dead bodies of the attackers in to custody and later handed over to the Political administration.
“On the night between Wednesday and Thursday five terrorists were killed in exchange of fire with the security forces in Darmu Drab Pass in the Khyber agency. The terrorists attempted to fire raid a security forces check post but the troops valiantly responded and frustrated terrorist’s attempt. Dead bodies in custody of the forces and being handed over the Political administration”. An Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) Communiqué issued to the media Thursday afternoon said.
The security forces that had initiated Operation titled Zab-e-Azb against the trouble makers challenging the state writ in North Waziristan agency some 18 month back on June, 15 2014, it may be recalled had also kicked off Operation Khyber, the second leg of Operation Zab-e-Azb on October 14 last year and since then has been coming hard on the miscreants through ground and air offensives.
Tiraah valley continues to be the most troubled spot in the Khyber agency where not only the Taliban militants regrouped in the backdrop of operation Zab-e-Azb and Operation Khyber, but also there are pockets of local militants belonging to Lashker-e-Islam of Mangal Bagh who often lend support to Taliban.
The military sources conducting surgical operation in the region for the last about three years, have although cleared most of the area in Khyber agency, still there are pockets where they have been facing resistance from the alleged terrorists with hilly terrain Tiraah being the major one and the insurgents off and on launch ambushes on the security forces and their check posts.
The terrorists had attempted to attack a security check post, but it was foiled. Three wanted terrorists were killed on Thursday by the security forces in Tarel valley near Challas in Gilgit Baltistan. The terrorists killed were involved in attacks civil transport, tourists and security forces on Karakoram Highway.
