Evolving consensus among all Provinces for celebrating Eid and starting Ramazan, on the same day, has always remained a Herculean task for the government. We often see a difference of opinion and a blame game between the central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee and the local religious scholars in KP and FATA. The egoistic behaviour from both sides divides the nation on these important events. Unfortunately neither the Federal nor the Provincial governments have taken this issue seriously in the past.
Surprisingly, this year the holy month of Ramazan started on same day throughout the country including KP, which was a good omen for the unity of nation. The Federal Ministry for Religious Affairs has now started making efforts to evolve a consensus among all Provinces for celebrating Eid, the same day. They need to convene the meeting of Ruet-e-Hilal committee in Peshawar and also invite Mufti Popalzai of Masjid Qasim Ali Khan, which will help in reaching a consensus. It will also help in easing the tension between the two parties.
For future, the Ministry needs to lay out a comprehensive plan to resolve this issue. If the whole nation celebrates these events at the same time, it will develop a sense of unity among different areas of the country. This unity will go a long way in creating harmony and collective thinking in our countrymen.
