Education and development

Yousra Shabbir

Education is one of the important components of human capital. Education is a powerful instrument in reducing poverty, enhancing earnings as well as economic growth, empowering people, promoting a healthy environment and creating competitive economy. It also raises the productivity, efficiency of individuals and producing skilled manpower. It plays a vital role in producing skilled workforce.
Education and economic development are interlined. Education has a positive effect on economic development of Pakistan. If government of Pakistan increases budget for education, more people will be educated, which will lead to more production.
In Quran it is stated that “Are those equal, those who know and those who do not know?”(AL-ZUMR, 09). One Hadith of the Holy Prophet (PBUH) goes, “Seek knowledge even if you have to travel from Yemen to China.” This Quranic verse and Hadith of the Prophet are reflective of the importance of education for all without any gender discrimination. The Government of Pakistan should give top priority to education at all levels to achieve a strong economic growth and prosperity.
