Educated and empowered women can effectively build better future

Provincial Secretary for Women Development Department (WDD), Bushra Aman has said that WDD is committed to safeguard the rights of women and their socio-economic empowerment in accordance with the vision of Punjab Government.
She was addressing the concluding seminar in connection with WDD’s campaign “‘hertalk’ Against Gender Based Violence” at Kinnaird College for Women, here today. Besides faculty members, a large number of teachers, students and representatives of UNWOMEN, APWA and WDD were present on the occasion. Bushra Aman under-scored the need for collective efforts for elimination of discrimination against women in all forms. She said that various programmes including awareness seminars, documentary films and art competitions were arranged by the department while at a rare event Minar-e-Pakistan was decorated with orange lights to support the international campaign ‘Orange the World’ to stop violence against women (VAW). She appreciated the cooperation of UNWOMEN, APWA and all the educational institutions for making the campaign a success.
Prof. Salima Hashmi highlighted the traditional role of women and the problems faced by them in the society in detail. She urged the students to pay full attention towards their education so that they could contribute in the efforts against negative and prejudice attitude against women.
Renowned fashion designer Hassan Sheheryar Yasin (HSY) while speaking on the occasion gave credit to his mother for every achievement in his life. Educated and empowered women can effectively build a better future for our generation, concluded HSY.
