DRAP approves dengue vaccine registration


Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) has approved the registration of vaccine for dengue virus on immediate and emergency basis.
According to an official of Ministry of National Health Services Regulation and Coordination, the decision was taken keeping in view the increasing cases of dengue throughout the country and to protect the citizens from this virus. He said Pakistan would be the second country where the government had approved the registration for production of dengue vaccine in the country.
He said keeping in view the past seasonal trends and continuous increase in the number of suspected dengue patients, it was imperative to be vigilant about the situation and take certain steps to limit further transmission. He said an advisory had already been issued to the departments concerned to sensitize general public besides taking other steps as dengue cases were being reported from different parts of the country.
The official said careful clinical detection and management of dengue patients could significantly reduce mortality rates from severe dengue. He said the dengue was transmitted by mosquitoes of the Aedes aegypti and Aedes albopictus, which were widely distributed in subtropical and tropical areas of the world.

Meanwhile, it is reported from Abbottabad that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Directorate of Elementary and Secondary Education on Friday imposed a ban on schools morning assembly to prevent dengue fever spread in kids till further order. A notification from the directorate (F/No.01/Dengue prevention/ 2017 No. 65656-6615) said that all children are bound to wear full sleeve shirts in the schools and principals, head masters of the schools should strictly implement guidelines in their respective schools.
The directorate also issued guidelines for the precautionary measures including full sleeve shirts for students, application of anti mosquito lotion, removal of standing water from the school premises. It was further elaborated that all concerned departments should make sure proper arrangement for sewerage lines and cover clean drinking water, provide basic information and aware students about dengue fever and advise them to disseminate the information to other people.
